I am a surgical intensivist in both the Trauma ICU of Cleveland Medical Center as well as the Ahuja Medical Center and am currently an Associate Professor of Surgery within the Department of Surgery at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. I began my career in surgery. During my tenure and association with residency programs in Youngstown, Ohio, Lansing, Michigan and Cleveland I have had opportunity to practice surgery with a focus on surgical critical care in four distinct locations. My most recent position is Associate Professor of surgery at University Hospitals of Cleveland. I have been honored with seven outstanding educator awards by residents and fellows from each of the programs with which I have been associated as well s The Schubin- Weil Award for excellence in bedside teaching in 2010. I have been actively involved in SCCM for thirty years and ACCM 21 years. My service to the SCCM has been acknowledged with fifteen SCCM Presidential Citations and has allowed me to be an initial contributor and developer of the “Year in Review in Surgery Concept” for SCCM. This has been a staple at the annual meetingsfor the past twenty years. My research interests have included not only education but also explorations in the areas of resuscitation and post-operative critical care support. My work in the post-operative critical care support of patients with atrial fibrillation resulted in a Research Snapshot Gold Award in 2017 from the SCCM and a later publication as the journal Anesthesiology. I was honored by being nominated and election to the designation Master of Critical Care Medicine (MCCM) by the American College of Critical Care Medicine (ACCM) in 2016.
