Post-operative bleeding is common in the ICU. An understanding of normal versus pathologic bleeding is needed to develop a differential diagnosis to direct appropriate workup and intervention of the bleeding. This lecture will discuss approaches to pathologic post-operative bleeding including the workup for ongoing surgical site bleed, development of coagulopathy or residual anticoagulant effect used intraoperatively.
