Today, clinicians try to meet ICU metrics such as reduction of central line-associated bloodstream infections and catheter-associated urinary tract infections. By not inserting central lines or urinary catheters, ICU administrators can meet the metrics, but are they necessary to improve patients' outcomes? This session will debate the pros and cons of meeting ICU metrics.
Learning Objectives:
Define ICU metrics
Define ICU outcomes
Argue that meeting ICU metrics may improve overall ICU outcomes
Argue that meeting ICU metrics may not improve overall ICU outcomes
