Using our program for trainee debriefs developed at Helen DeVos Children's hospital, we will provide a framework for the creation of similar programs in other institutions including:
Introduction and Purpose—History of why debriefs were started and continue to be held. Discuss what we’ve learned about the stressors of ICU rotations and the opportunity to reflect and process experiences in a safe environment. Discuss modeling vulnerability and devaluing “tough it out” expectations. Outline debrief session format and general strategies using evidence-informed guidelines in conjunction with institutional experience- who is involved, when sessions are held, how to create psychological safety. Discuss feedback on debrief program to date.
