(80518) Hemodynamics Monitoring Skills Course

This full-day course provides a comprehensive introduction to hemodynamics monitoring in critically ill patients. The course consists of two blocks of presentations, each followed by skill stations designed to reinforce and elaborate on concepts introduced in the presentations. The morning block introduces basic principles of hemodynamics and shock management, the concept of functional hemodynamic monitoring and assessment of fluid responsiveness, and cardiovascular pharmacology. Skill stations focus on hemodynamics monitoring devices, including noninvasive devices, invasive pulse volume devices, and pulmonary artery catheters, with interactive experience with the devices in simulation. The afternoon block addresses assessment of tissue perfusion, technical aspects of monitoring, and a fuller consideration of strengths and weaknesses of various invasive and noninvasive monitoring devices. The afternoon skill stations will present interactive cases in a “Choose Your Own Adventure” format.
