Successful management of status epilepticus relies heavily on appropriate use of loading and maintenance doses of anti-seizure medications. Given unfamiliarity of most clinicians with these new agents, it is helpful to review standard loading and maintenance doses as well as review considerations in renal failure, renal replacement therapy (HD, CVVHD), hepatic failure, patients on ECMO, and those who are obese. This session will provide a brief overview of pharmacokinetic principles and potential changes in the special populations, and practical guidance when selecting the appropriate dosing and monitoring strategy for these medications.
