Trials of corticosteroids in acute respiratory distress syndrome and pneumonia have yielded conflicting results, and potential adverse effects remain concerns, particularly in some high-risk populations. Practitioners are frequently confronted with the decision to treat with corticosteroids or not in the absence of clear evidence. In this session, two speakers will use a pro/con format to present the cases for using corticosteroids in most cases versus in selected cases. The moderator will use case-based discussion to engage the speakers and attendees in patient-specific decision-making.
