Dr. Jillian Bybee, MD, FAAP is an Assistant Professor in the Section of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at Corewell Health West and Michigan State University, and she serves as the Director of Wellness for Graduate Medical Education and Associate Program Director of Wellbeing and Professional Development for the Pediatric Residency Program and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellowship programs. She dedicates her work in medical education, quality improvement and patient safety, and wellbeing to preventing or lessening the morbidities associated with the medical system on patients, families, and fellow healthcare workers.
Dr. Bybee attended medical school at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, NE and completed Pediatrics Residency at Phoenix Children’s Hospital/Maricopa Medical Center. After residency, she completed her Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellowship and a post-fellowship clinical research year at McGaw Medical Center at Northwestern University/Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago focusing on ICU liberation and implementation science.
Having navigated recovery from burnout herself, Dr. Bybee emphasizes the importance of healthcare worker wellbeing by linking current data and personal stories as a physician navigating the intersection of work, home, community, and self. She has delivered numerous sessions nationally on healthcare worker wellbeing including stress management, secondary traumatic stress, burnout, and resilience which have positively impacted hundreds of healthcare workers.
