Katie holds a Bachelors in Nursing Science from Pacific Lutheran University and a Master’s of Nursing from the University of Washington with an emphasis in education. She was commissioned into the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in 2013 . While serving in the Army Katie worked in both the inpatient and outpatient settings including oncology, hospice, and officer in charge of pediatrics.
Since a near fatal workplace violence attack in 2016, Katie has dedicated her time advocating for improved workplace violence prevention programs and policy within the healthcare industry. Katie has sat on several military and civilian workplace violence prevention committees, has presented at both local and national conferences as well as being invited by the Joint Commission to work on their Technical Advisory Panel for workplace violence. Katie is the Director of Healthcare Education and Research at Vistelar LLC, as well as a full-time student at the University of Washington in their Philosophy in Nursing Science (PhD) program. Her dissertation is a secondary data analysis of longitudinal workplace violence data collected by Johns Hopkins University. Using quantitative methods she is exploring the organizational and occupational outcomes of repeated exposures of workplace violence.
