Shawna Strickland, PhD, CAE, RRT, FAARC, is a registered respiratory therapist and certified association professional. After over a decade as a critical care respiratory therapist, she transitioned into higher education, serving as faculty and in program administration. Dr. Strickland transitioned to association practice in 2013 and is currently the Associate Executive Director of Programs for the American Epilepsy Society, providing leadership for the clinical activities, research, education, and grants teams. Dr. Strickland also currently serves as adjunct faculty at Rush University, teaching doctoral leadership and education courses and mentoring research students in the College of Health Sciences. Her most recent publications include prevalence studies of burnout in respiratory therapists and qualitative analysis of factors contributing to burnout in respiratory therapists. She also serves as a panelist on the SCCM End-of-Life Care in the Adult ICU clinical practice guideline currently in development.
