Miss Mugambi is a doctoral candidate in Computer Science at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, advised by Dr. Madalina Fiterau. Her research aims to improve health equity by building data mining and machine learning tools to automatically identify disparities in treatment of patients across several large electronic health record datasets. Additionally, she invetigates how best to incorporate social determinants of health in machine learning models to learn functions that fit entire patient groups as well as patient sub-populations. Prior to begininning her PhD, Miss Mugambi worked as a research software engineer at IBM Research lab in Nairobi Kenya. She received her Bachelors in Computer Science from the University of Nairobi, Kenya in 2014, and her Masters in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 2021.
