Dr. Derrington, MD, MA Bioethics, HEC-C is the inaugural director of the Center for Bioethics at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the Keck School of Medicine, and an attending physician in Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Derrington holds a B.S. in chemistry from Hillsdale College (Summa Cum Laude), a medical degree from UC Davis School of Medicine (AOA), a master’s degree in Bioethics and Health Policy from Loyola University, and is a certified healthcare ethics consultant. Her research focuses on health equity concerns in the context of pediatric critical illness, communication and shared decision-making, and genomics. She has more than twelve years of experience conducting clinical ethics consultations, teaching ethics, and contributing to organizational policy and ethics program development. In addition to her work in bioethics and critical care, Dr. Derrington practiced as a pediatric palliative care consultant for nearly a decade, both at CHLA and at Robert H. and Ann Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. She has won numerous teaching awards and has presented and authored more than 70 lectures, book chapters, reports, and publications.
