Safwan Elkhatib, PhD, is a fourth year medical student in the combined MD-PhD program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He completed his PhD in Integrative Physiology, investigating how the sympathetic nervous alters T-lymphocyte inflammation through redox mechanisms. He is currently applying to anesthesiology residency programs with a specific interest in critical care, and plans to continue his research career with a focus on immunomodulation in the critically ill.
