Silvia Perez-Protto, MD, MS, FCCM is an anesthesiologist and intensivist originally from Uruguay, South America. She worked as an intensivist and transplant coordinator in Uruguay, conducting more than 100 organ donation interviews. She was a scholar for the “Fundación Carolina” at the Transplant Services Foundation, Hospital Clínic, Barcelona in 2005. She has published several articles about organ donation and transplantation.
Currently she is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at the Cleveland Clinic Learner College of Medicine. She practices at the Cleveland Clinic Surgical Intensive Care Unit. She served as president of the SCCM Ohio Chapter 2018-2020. She is the director of the Center for End of Life care at the Clinical Transformation - Cleveland Clinic. The center is aimed to standardize the advance care planning with the specific objectives to respect patients’ preferences, to improve family experience and to foster caregiver resilience. She is also faculty at the Center for Excellence in Healthcare Communication teaching communication skills to physicians and middle care providers.
