Sarah Goldberg, MD, is a Clinical Instructor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Cardiovascular Critical Care at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. After completing her medical school at University of Maryland School of Medicine, she went on to complete her residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at the University of Maryland Medical Center, serving as Chief Resident during her final year of training. She subsequently obtained board certification in both internal medicine and pediatrics. She then became a clinical fellow in cardiology at Boston Children’s Hospital, obtaining board certification in pediatric cardiology, after which she elected to pursue additional fellowship training in pediatric cardiac intensive care. She has also received board certification in adult congenital heart disease. She joined the Division of Cardiovascular Critical Care at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School as a clinical instructor in July 2017.
Dr. Goldberg's research focuses on improving outcomes in the cardiac ICU by means of addressing ICU delirium, promoting early rehabilitation, and managing comorbidities with a focus on the adult congenital heart disease patient population. She created a delirium screening, prevention and education program and is studying risk factors and outcomes of patients with delirium in the cardiac ICU. She is also serving as the site primary investigator for study evaluating rehabilitation practices in the cardiac ICU. She received a 2-year Pediatric Heart Network Scholars INCLUDE Award to identify risk factors for perioperative morbidity and mortality in adolescent and adult patients with Down syndrome undergoing cardiac surgery.
Outside of research, Dr. Goldberg serves is active in the academic development of residents, fellows, and staff, acting as the faculty director of the Cardiac ICU Curriculum Committee. She continues to see patients in the Boston Children’s Hospital Ambulatory Cardiology Clinic where she supervises cardiology fellows during their outpatient cardiology training.
