I am a pediatric intensivist with a long-standing research interest in improving neurodevelopmental outcomes of critically ill children. I was the Principal Investigator of a clinical trial that examined ketamine as a possible neuroprotective agent for children undergoing cardiac surgery. I have also investigated the use of non-invasive monitoring, such as near infrared spectroscopy, for monitoring adequacy of tissue oxygenation and to assess the use of MRI and amplitude-integrated EEG in detecting CNS injury in patients with congenital heart disease.
I am interested in expanding the role of Pediatric Critical Care as a sub-specialty to a global stage. I have served as the Co-Chair for global health group of the PALISI network, a network of academic Pediatric ICU’s which is undertaking multiple projects to highlight the importance of acute care in reducing global childhood mortality. I have active research projects currently in sub-Saharan Africa and Pakistan.
I currently serve as the Division Chief of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at Riley Children's Health and Indiana University School of Medicine.
