Kari is a senior Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in the Department of Pediatrics-Division of Critical Care with over 15 years of APP experience and greater than 20 years of nursing experience. Kari is a leader within the division and currently serves as the Associate Program Director for a large Pediatric Critical Care APP team where she is an essential member of the leadership team and involved in the operations of the section. Kari serves as a mentor and resource for our APPs, fellows, and junior faculty members. Kari is the APP clinical lead for the medical/surgical PICU and in this role is essential in identifying systems and clinical issues and working with the interprofessional team to make improvements. Kari has received the prestigious Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) Expert Teacher in the Department of Pediatrics and the MCW Expert Clinician in the Department of Pediatrics several times and is an incredibly well-respected member of the team. Kari’s academic interests include neuro-critical care, resuscitation, acute liver failure, and liver transplant. She is a leader on the interprofessional neuro-critical care team, the PICU code review committee, and the clinical leadership team for the liver transplant program. Additionally, she is one of the course directors for the Pediatric Fundamentals of Critical Care Support, a Pediatric Advanced Life Support Regional Director, and one of the critical care team’s liaisons to the international Pedi-RESQ collaborative aimed at improving early identification of high-risk patients and improving pediatric resuscitation outcomes. She has written many hospital guidelines and is a strong advocate to assure they are not only implemented, but consistently followed.
