Quality Improvement Respiratory Therapist
Children's of Alabama
I am Christy Thomas and work as the Quality Improvement Respiratory Therapist in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Children's of Alabama. I have been a respiratory therapist for 22 years. I began my career in adult care and quickly transitioned to pediatrics. I was a bedside RT at Children's of Alabama for 20 years working majority of those years in the PICU. In July 2021, I became the first Quality Improvement Respiratory Therapist at Children's of Alabama. It has been a great opportunity for me to use my years of bedside experience to help develop new practices and standardization of care. I have had the privilege of being involved in several QI projects and publications. My area of interest includes decreasing ventilation time and ICU length of stay, as well as preventing unplanned extubations.
