A native of Baltimore, Maryland, David spent his first career as a Baltimore City paramedic and instructor. During his tensure in the fire department, his focus was on peer education, with a focus on cardiovascular emergencies. He also taught at the University of Maryland School of Medicine as a clinical instructor in their Department of Emergency Medicine. In 2006, he was awarded Paramedic of the Year for his service to the citizens of Baltimore. However, he always had the dream of becoming a physician. With the assistance of his wife and at the age of 34, he returned to medical school with the goal to become a cardiologist. He chose to focus on pediatrics as his maternal grandmother was saved by Dr. Alred Blalock! In 2020, he graduated with honors from the American Univserity of the Caribbean School of Medicine in Sint Marteen in 2020. In 2023, he completed his pediatric residency at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock, receiving multiple awards for his patient care, research, and professionalism. Also in 2023, his dream of returning home came to fruition as he is currently completing his pediatric cardiology fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He has been happily married for over 14 years to my wife, Carrie Freeman, who is a practicing attorney. They also have a 4 year old son, Madoc.
