Dr. Gregory E. Kerr is Director of Anesthesia Critical Care and Vice President of the Medical/Dental Board at Harlem Hospital in NYC. He received his M.D. from NYU School of Medicine and his M.B.A from Columbia University School of Business. He did his anesthesia residency at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in NYC and fellowship training in critical care medicine and cardiac anesthesia at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. GA. He had the privilege of being on the faculty of Weill Cornell Medical College (WCMC) for over 25 years and served as the first Medical Director of Critical Care Services at New York Presbyterian Hospital WCMC . His academic career has focused on healthcare inequalities and ways to engage housestaff in patient care issues. While at NYPH he helped create the Housestaff Quality Council which won the Joint Commission’s John Eisenberg Award for Patient Safety and Quality as well as the ACGME David C. Leach Award for Excellence in Improving Communication & Collaboration in Education & Patient Care. He continues to champion the need to address the concerns healthcare disparities and the need to enhance academic personnel diversity. He has chaired multiple SCCM committees, and chaired the Anesthesia Section in 2014-2016. He is an active member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and National Medical Association (NMA). While Chair of the ASA Committee on Professional Diversity, he met an energetic young physician from Indiana who took on the role of Vice -Chair. This young physician was to succeed Dr. Kerr as chair of the committee when suddenly he was invited by Governor Michael Pence to be Health Commissioner in the State of Indiana. The young physician was the former US Surgeon General, Jerome Adams and who is now the Presidential Fellow and Executive Director of Purdue's Health Equity Initiative.
