This educational platform is intended to improve the identification and management of patients with or at high risk for developing secondary diseases such as HRS/AKI as a result of decompensating cirrhosis or acute-on-chronic liver failure, the multiorgan failure syndrome induced by specific triggers in patients with decompensated cirrhosis. Guided by a comprehensive assessment of current gaps in clinical practice, content is intended for SCCM Congress attendees to provide effective care based on available evidence, guidelines, and expert best practices.

Learning Objectives:

Describe the different etiologies of acute kidney injury (AKI) arising in cirrhosis and how they impact treatment and outcomes
Apply guideline-recommended vasoconstrictor therapy for patients who meet diagnostic criteria for hepatorenal syndrome/AKI
Discuss the comprehensive management of patients with severe multiorgan disease (acute-on-chronic liver failure grade 3) in the ICU and the implications for liver transplant
