SCCM is involved in a number of global health initiatives that improve critical care for patients around the world. Participants in these initiatives will discuss the development and implementation of these initiatives, as well as additional global initiatives that improve training for medical professionals in low- and middle-income countries. Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss the scarcity of medical oxygen use in emergency and intensive care settings in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs)
  • Describe the integration of a critical care medicine ultrasound course for multiprofessional clinicians to better respond to battlefield injuries
  • Identify the role of a bidirectional observation program in fostering the training, knowledge acquisition, and confidence of junior anesthesiology faculty from LMICs
  • Appraise the clinical impact of creating a global pediatric critical care network to support resource-limited settings training
