The appropriate use of blood products requires consideration of the benefits and risks. Freshly frozen plasma transfusions are often unnecessarily administered during an inadequate correction of the deficiencies of coagulation factors. When comparing a liberal FFP transfusion strategy vs. a restrictive one, which strategy is the best to adopt in intensive care settings. This presentation will review the issues with plasma transfusions from a global perspective and provide clarity on when it shouldn't be used for anticoagulation and antiplatelet medication corrections as well as in special critically ill patient populations.
