Many current practices in the resuscitation of pediatric trauma patients in hemorrhagic shock have relied on the extrapolation of data and outcomes from adult trauma. Developing and performing quality research studies in the pediatric trauma population may rely on national research consortiums and societal research organizations to collect an appropriately sized pediatric trauma population for appropriate assessment of interventions and outcomes. This lecture will detail these challenges, how we may improve research communication through standardized definitions and outcomes. Finally, this lecture will provide a brief discussion of the research priorities highlighted during the Pediatric Traumatic Hemorrhagic Shock Consensus Conference.
