Decreasing Red Cell Exposure by Aligning RBC Transfusion to Patient Physiology During Pediatric ECMO

Children supported with ECMO receive large volumes of blood transfusion during their care, often to maintain an arbitrary hemoglobin/hematocrit level. No clinical data informs optimal blood transfusion practice. The TITRE trial, funded by the US Department of Defense, will address the use of indication-based blood transfusion to improve patient outcomes in pediatric ECMO. The trial design and rationale will be explored.
