Vasopressors are among the most prescribed medications in the ICU. Particularly as fluid-restrictive approaches have become more common, vasopressors are becoming more prominent in the management of shock. However, the optimal approach to vasopressor administration remains unknown, so vasopressor administration practices vary widely and have broad implications for patient care, including safety and cost. This session will provide an in-depth overview of the latest evidence for vasopressor administration strategies in septic shock, including reviewing vasopressor choices, timing, and administration route, and will highlight important emerging concepts, including the role of vasopressor responsiveness, multimodal approaches, and opportunities for personalization.
