In resource-limited settings, available care is contingent not only on physical resources such as supplies, equipment, testing capabilities, medications, and clean water, but also on local caregiver knowledge, skills, and abilities. Technology can aid local caregivers by providing remote expertise and other treatment options to the point of care, thereby increasing local caregiver capability and capacity to provide treatment beyond the traditional scope of practice. This session will describe care in resource-limited settings and novel technologies in the domains of telemedicine, digital health, robotics, and automation that are being leveraged to improve patient care.
Learning Objectives:
Define austere, resource-limited settings
Describe how technology can be used to improve care in resource-limited settings
Identify technical, social, and cultural barriers to adoption of these technologies locally and at scale
