This talk will review the considerations that nephrologists have when consulted regarding the use of renal replacement therapy (RRT) to help manage severe acidemia and hypoxemia in patients with kidney and respiratory failure. Topics will include the mechanisms by which RRT treats acidemia, including its interaction with mechanical ventilation, and the settings in which RRT may or may not be helpful in managing severe hypoxemia.
