In hospitalized older adults, geriatric models of care are associated with improved outcomes including shorter lengths of stay, lower rates of delirium, and less functional decline. Yet, geriatric models of care have never been implemented in the ICU. This talk will review  effective geriatric models of care, envision how they can be implemented in the ICU to improve outcomes among older ICU patients, and present the results of a promising new pilot study testing a geriatric model-based intervention.
