Lung transplantation is a life-saving procedure for many patients with advanced lung disease. With the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, many lung transplant centers have needed to establish new urgent referral pathways for patients with refractory hypoxemia and need for ECMO, particularly among younger patients. In this session, we will discuss indications for transplant referral in the acute setting, as well as review data regarding the benefits of such referral and protocols that support them.
