Home-based, self-directed and short-term center-based interventions have failed to consistently improve outcomes in survivors of critical illness. Moreover, older survivors of critical illness have high rates of sedentary behavior, obesity, and social isolation that compromise their ability to function. This talk will review data on post-ICU physical rehabilitation interventions and explore how physical activity interventions that have improved outcomes in older adults with chronic illnesses can improve mobility, disability, physical function, and body composition in survivors of critical illness.
